So who's interested in doing brass choir this year? I've been looking at a bunch of Gabrieli music, and it's all amazing. We HAVE to play at least one Gabrieli song.
For those of you who don't know, Giovanni Gabrieli is just about the greatest brass choir composer EVER. Here's a taste of his music (we played this my freshman year):
And for those who don't know this either, brass choir is a small group of only brass players. It's not actually a choir where we sing or anything. We still play our instruments. But it's all music written especially for brass players.

Okay, so who's really interested in being in a brass choir or quintet or some other small brass group? I know Mote has some music already, but he still needs to make copies of all of it. And he hasn't really announced anything about brass choir officially yet. But Justin, Wesley, and I found some brass quintet music on the table by the band room door, and I saw a song we worked on a little last year, so we looked at it and played it. It was awesome!! Then Mote came in... but, anyway, the music looks pretty interesting. I encourage anyone who enjoys playing their instrument and making music to join. It's fun, and it's a great experience. Rather than having a large group like in full band, where very little gets done, a smaller brass ensemble has fewer people and fewer parts, so we would be able to get a lot more done. And we could mess around and play a bunch of random run songs that we wouldn't be able to play normally with full band.
Here's what I would like our brass choir to have, and the people who have already confirmed that they are interested:
three or four trumpets - Michael one or two French horns one or two trombones - Wesley one or two tubas - Justin
We're also looking to put together a brass quintet that's separate from brass choir. A brass quintet includes two trumpets, a French horn, one trombone, and a tuba. Again, so far, we have me, Wesley, and Justin. Anyone else who's interested, talk to me or Mote. (You'll have to talk to Mote about it in the end anyway.)

Colleen said she would be interested in doing a quintet, so now we have the French horn part covered. We just need one more trumpet.

Okay. Well, Justin suggested having practice tomorrow after school. Colleen said she would be able to go, and I should be able to. We still need one more trumpet for a quintet. Anthony said he's not interested, and Geoff hasn't given me a real answer yet. So if you'd like to be in a brass quintet, talk to me or Justin.

Another year is about to begin. We have three weeks until rookie camp. I think we should really consider getting a brass choir together before school starts up again. That way we can have some practice before marching season starts again. Again, we have the same problem with getting the instrumentation for a brass choir, but a brass quintet/quartet might be possible. So who's interested?
Trumpet(s) - Michael, Zac French Horn - Trombone/Baritone - Wesley Tuba - Justin Filson

Actually, this year we really might be able to have a brass choir. We'll have three tubas, plenty of baritones/trombones, and about ten trumpets (not sure who would be interested other than me and Dryn, though). French horns.... well.... I'll ask Conner. And who knows? Maybe one of the freshmen will be interested.
