To start this thread off, everyone needs to understand "Hold the butter." So grab some popcorn and a chair, and sit back and relax. It's story time!
Last year during marching band camp, Mr. Howard, the trumpet instructor at Ken Stanton, was leading the trumpet sectional. In order to pick out mistakes and correct them, he had all the trumpets play the first song (Greased Lightnin') individually. I was first. I came to a rest in the music, and Mr. Howard said something along the lines of, "Don't hold over," or, "No vibrato" (I can't remember exactly what he said). Geoff, who was sitting on the other side of Anthony, was only half paying attention when Mr. Howard said this. So Geoff thought Mr. Howard said, "Hold the butter."
That's how we got the saying. Now the meaning of "Hold the butter" is pretty simple. Basically, it means, "No mistakes, and no excuses." In gaming terms, "No johning." So if you hear someone playing badly or blaming their mistakes on someone else, don't be afraid to yell out,
"HOLD THE BUTTER!!!"
