Hey rookies, you guys say you did pretty good, but did you truly think that?
This was the first time you guys marched without music. How did you guys think you did? Personally, I could hardly hear Michael play and he's playing right behind me most of the time.
I felt like I did a prettty good job, but I didn't feel the intensity that I feel sometimes during our practices.

hey i didn't say i did pretty good, i just said that it coulda been worse... marching without music wasn't too bad though, and since i've been having problems with my lyre, im glad i didn't have to take it out there with me

Well, just keep looking over the music until you're sure you have it memorized. I have all four show tunes, On Wisconsin, Fire of Eternal Glory, and a lot of the stands tunes memorized, and I still look at the music sometimes just so I can make sure I'm still playing everything right. Sometimes I'll miss an articulation or some dynamics and I'll check the music to fix it. Always look for something to improve, even if you've already passed off the music. I might do a mini spot check (like a pop quiz, only you're playing something instead of writing) later on in the year. Nobody likes taking lyres onto the field, so try to get everything passed off as soon as possible. I want Greased Lightnin' and Summer Nights passed off this Wednesday for everyone who hasn't passed them off yet. I also need everyone to bring have FoEG, Hand Jive, We Go Together, On Wisconsin, Star Spangled Banner, and stands tunes (Slammin' Jlammin' Flammin' Cheerin' Packin', on Wednesday. You don't have to pass all of those off, but I'd like to get started passing some of them off this Wednesday, and we'll also play some of it together. Like Mr. Mote said, the Dome isn't the best place to play. The sound is pretty bad and phasing is easy. But next week (not this coming week, but the next one) we'll back home in our own stadium playing McEachern! I want this to be our best show so far for the first home game of the season!

Same. You don't have to worry about reading every single note, then having a random dyslexic moment and playing the wrong note because you think a D is actually a B or some other combination of notes.

same here, but i have a pretty crappy memory, so it takes quite a while... at least i got greased lightnin out of the way... of course, i still have to look over it as much as everything else, and i still have to do summer nights AND the other songs
