With the scrimmage coming up this Friday and the Georgia Dome game next Saturday, I just want to remind everyone what they need to have for games.
Uniforms - This will be the same as today: PLAIN WHITE T-SHIRT, basketball shorts, LONG BLACK SOCKS, and MARCHING SHOES. Some of you don't have your marching shoes yet. We should be getting those soon. Also, take off all watches, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, etc. As I've said before, they reflect light and take away from the uniform look. If the judges at competition see light reflecting off and exposed watch or earrings, they'll think someone is moving when they shouldn't be. TAKE OFF ALL JEWELRY.
Instruments and Music - You will, obviously, need your instruments. Check before we leave the band room that your mouthpiece is a quarter-turn in your instrument. No one wants to have a mouthpiece hit the back of their head because some didn't have their mouthpiece screwed in on a horns down. And, if you haven't passed off your music yet, you will need your music and a lyre. This is very important. You CANNOT march without music unless you have PASSED OFF your music to YOUR SECTION LEADER. I don't care if you have it memorized. Nobody goes on the field without music until they have passed it off. This shouldn't be a problem, since Mr. Mote expects everyone to have their music passed off by Friday. Check with your Section Leader to set up a time to pass off your music.
The Band Room - NO HATS ON IN THE BAND ROOM. PERIOD. Wait until we are out of the band room before putting on your hat. Put on your uniform, get your hat and plume, and sit down in your section with you hat and instrument in your lap.
Pre-Game - All brass are to be at school in uniforms and with instruments half an hour before call time for a short full brass warm up. Check in with your Section Leader and stay in your section.
Post-Game - After the game, we will march back to the band room, where Mr. Mote and Mr. Rice will talk to us shortly. DO NOT TALK while they are speaking. When they dismiss us, put your instrument away, hang up your uniform after checking with a band parent or Morgan (Uniform Manager) to see that your uniform is put away correctly, then go directly to your Section Leader. You MUST check out with your Section Leader. We were lenient with punishment for failure to do this last year, but failure to check out will result in some punishment decided on by your Section Leader. We do this to make sure all uniforms and instruments are put away properly, and so we don't have to look around for someone who already left.
If anyone has anything else to add, go ahead. I'm looking forward to this marching season. Let's make this the best year the Etowah Marching Eagle Band has ever seen.
