lol And I was playing my Yamaha Japan 11 today.... lol I went like 50 cents sharp playing normally. If you're looking for the perfect mouthpiece, try one for a while, and if it's good, stick with it.

About trying out new mouthpieces:
You really have to guess at which mouthpiece will work best for you, play on it for a few weeks, and if you like it, keep it, and if don't like it, repeat the process.
You have to let your lip muscles get used to the mouthpiece. You can't really decide if a mouthpiece is right for you the first time you try it.
The screamer mouthpiece that Michael gave me didn't seem like it made high notes were easier. It just made my chops really tired, I cracked almost every note, and it made me really sharp. That is a mouthpiece that I would have to play on to see if it works for me.
3c is the perfect mouthpiece for me right now but I want to try out an 11b4.

Ok, Anthony, I'll give you mine for free, I don't use it. Geoff, Ryan who, O.? I thought he played clarinet?!! Michael, I know it's a big range of Choices, that's why I'm a bit confused. I know it's a bit of a stretch to try so many mouthpieces during private lessons, but they wouldn't let me at Ken Stanton today. The reason I'm unhappy with my 5 C, more than anything else, is it's uncomfortable. I can play on it, but the three c felt much better. But so did my 11b4, and they did almost the exact same thing for me, but they still didn't feel quite right (I'm a perfectionist). Thus, my dillema. Also, the cornet wasn't mine, it was the schools.

Ryan Barden. He quit band. He's in 10th grade now.
During sectionals tomorrow I'll try out your 11B4.

Yeah, I used my new (old) screamer mouthpiece at practice today, and I was also cracking a lot. It takes a lot of practice with one mouthpiece to get really good and to find the right mouthpiece. I think I'm going to stick with my Tri 5MS for now, but I might work with the Yamaha 11 next summer so I can use it in marching season next year. But don't alternate mouthpieces too much. That will cause you to develop an embrechure completely wrong for both mouthpieces. You'll play flat on deep mouthpieces and sharp on shallow ones, and you won't be able to get a clear attack. You'll probably end up cracking a lot on both mouthpieces. Again, I still want to hear you play with different mouthpieces, but I'd say the 3C is best for you right now.... wait, that's your cornet mouthpiece, isn't it? Never mind, go with the 5C for now.

Okay... did you get the 5C from Mr. Stallings at band camp?

Ok, well, I thought, if he did give it to you, you would have had the same problem Matt had with his (Mr. Stallings') 5C. The rim was too small, so it didn't feel very comfortable, and, even though it was a deeper cup, his tone was worse. So he tried my 5C, and the rim was much bigger, and he sounded better and it felt better. Maybe you should try my 5C. I think some of the Vincent Bach 5Cs have small rims. That could be the problem.

I've got something else! Has anyone heard of asymmetrical mouthpieces? Does anyone have one if so? I'd love to try one of those... (new topic! psst!)
